All people have customs or routines that are harmful to them. Some know they should exercise more, eat healthier, or stop waking up until the wee hours of the morning. Whatever that bad habit is, it’s never too late to change them if you really want to.

The following 8 tips will help you avoid bad habits:

Define what customs you want to free yourself

Do you want to stop waking up every morning in a bad mood? Eat better? Leave sedentary life? The first step to change bad habits is to make a list with all those routines or customs that you want to modify or eliminate from your life. No matter how long it is, the important thing is to identify them and then improve them.

What do these negative habits bring you?

Now is the time to think about how positive these bad habits bring you. For example: maybe your sedentary lifestyle is related to you need to relax after work due to stress? Identifying the reasons will help you find easier solutions.

Find another activity to replace that bad habit

What if instead of staying watching TV on the couch every afternoon you are looking for some activity that is more productive? Surely there is one that really works for your stress. Again, make a list of possible substitute activities to change that bad habit.

Plan that new activity

Including a new habit in your routine can be complicated, so you’ll have to make a space in your schedule or find someone to accompany you and help you introduce it to your day to day. The idea is to turn that new activity into a habit.

Start slowly!

Sometimes, the objectives are expensive and long-term. Take it easy and, if your goal is too far away, establish short-term goals that will help you move forward.

Find companions to help you

Finding allies to avoid bad habits can be a good way to really get it. And sometimes it is easier to defraud ourselves than others.

Divide your goal

Although your goal is far away, the truth is that each step you take brings you closer to it, so it sets short-term goals to also reinforce your esteem when achieving achievement after achievement.

Keep in mind the benefits of leaving bad habits

No one generates a change if he has nothing to gain. What sense does that change have for you? Look for it and keep it very present on your way to the goal.

No matter what your bad habit is, following these tips I’m sure you can eliminate it and add new good habits to your daily routine.

Yes, setting a goal is really important. In my case I tend to play a lot of games on my tablet and phone late and night, therefore sleeping late in the morning! This last week was insanely busy though. I had set amount of things I needed done at a certain time. That’s what motivated me. Kind of like when I had a 9 to 5 job, I had to be there at 9! Now I find myself slumping back into the late night, late morning thing again.

Coffee, snacks, soda – those are mine. Can’t get over those when working under pressure. It’s because I have access to my fridge at home.Need to work on a street to forget about all the temptations)

Eliminating bad habits is not easy, but i agree with you, you first have to have the capacity to identify what they are before you can change them. Off i go, to change mine.
